black jack caps round 3: manga edition
((everythings out of order again hoo boy))
These are hilarious! You’ve got the best filenames. x3;;
( Pffft, poor Tezuka-sensei and his deadlines. )
Well, my night has started off well :D
‘Same’: Black Jack fancomic pgs 1-2 by =JadineR
Alternatively, the tilte of this would-have been (fan) comic is “sameness”. 8) Also, this is left-to-right!
Right, well, some of you watchers might remember that right around this time last year I got obsessed with the series Black Jack. 8D It got to the point that I actively participated and talked with people of the fandom and I’m the kind of person who doesn’t really “join” fandoms…I just, well, declare myself a fan and that’s that :B
Awww, I remember this! <3
Well, I think what’s finished of it is lovely! There are some issues (poor wobbly-looking Pinoko balancing on the stool!), but the composition’s still very nice and the art style’s lovely! And I like the angles and perspectives… you don’t see too many people trying to do that. x3 Top right corner panel especially~
The top right corner’s my fave panel <3 Thank you so much for the comments! I really wanted to push myself, heh heh, even with the mistakes I made. :3

Wonder Tezuka by =JadineR
About a couple of months ago on Tumblr, I found that Osamu Tezuka did fanart of DC characters. I proceeded to squeal around (along with moon). Thus did I add “possible fan-art OF a fan-art” to my ever growing list of art to do preferably before I die. After about two months on-and-off working on it, I finished today :D
A whole bunch of Space Jack and Pinoko from RAVEX in Tezuka World.
Princess Sapphire reveals their payment! Their treasure is… the creations of their children. Basically, cheap kid’s toys, but it’s more of a symbolic payment anyway. ^^; Pinoko will accept one party favour as payment for the operation. :3
You don’t mess with perfection! Black Jack’s design was changed the least: he just gets a cool pair of shades. Pinoko gets a makeover! A more geometric, oddly robotic, but still adorable take on her usual red overall-skirt.
The designs were one of the few things I liked about this special. A modern twist but still maintaining the iconic touches of the original characters <333

In the Black Jack manga, Pinoko keeps a funhouse mirror in her room that distorts her image so that she’d look taller, as a way to deal with her body being shorter than she’d like.
I remember someone writing about how they think the end of Baby Doll’s first episode (from Batman: The Animated Series), where Mary Dahl, who is thirty-something year old actress-turned-crook who’s pining for her stardom days when she used to play a child on TV, runs through a house of mirrors and stops when she finds one that stretches her image so she’d look taller might’ve been partially inspired by a similar scene earlier on in Black Jack, where Pinoko, after being called a baby by even Black Jack, runs off to pose in front of a funhouse mirror, so she could see herself looking somewhat like the adult woman she’s supposed to be. After Black Jack shouts at her, she breaks down in tears in front of it, the mirror now distorting the image of her face.
I don’t know if there’s much of a relation, but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if there was. I loved both characters anyway; very different in personality, but similar in some ways too. <3
For those who’ve never watched it, here’s that scene from Baby Doll’s first episode. It’s quite haunting.

I found a better scan of the picture in question. So I best explain now about *my* version :D
So! Following Tezuka’s art I drew Sapphire as Wonder Woman (or “Ribbon Wonder Woman”, though I think Wonder Ribbon sounds better 8D). I included her cape because capes are cool :P And Wonder Woman does have a cape occasionally : P
Now for Pinoko, instead of drawing her as a mini-WW I decided to draw her as Wonder Girl, aka the original one, Donna Troy. Because Pinoko generally prefers dresses, I decided to give her a dress instead of having her wear Donna’s pants or star spangled shorts.
Melmo, on the other hand, I had a problem with. In my humble opinion, Donna’s star outfit —the “turtleneck” version, that is— fit her more than Cassie’s outfit, who was the one left to depict. Bbbuuutttt I really don’t like Cassie XD;* Despite that, however, I really wanted all 3 “Wonders” depicted, so I just decided to draw Melmo in one of Cassie’s outfits.** I just added a little frilly thing because Melmo is girly too, I think C:
Mid-way through this, I totally forgot about Uran XD; I feel so bad though I’m not sure what she would have been…Hippolyta?! XD
Haha, I always write long descriptions. Anyway, thanks for reading! ♥
*I think it’s telling when the only time I didn’t mind her character was in Infinite Crisis and 52. A-yup.
**I only really liked her red shirt and blue-reddish pants.*shrugs*](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m80zpzcz2x1qluzqro1_500.png)
