Here’s a snippet of another A&C page I’m still working on! I think I’ve basically decided to just finish this chapter on inks + tones, and then just update at a set amount per week. It’d be nice to have a buffer for a while.
Every page has been lettered already, and some are inked while others are have been inked but are now in toning process!
This snippet? The page turned out exactly like I wanted and I really hope it impresses you guys when it unveils, as much as I love it :D
Un poco de variedad, finalmente. Parece que el rosa es lo mío, ultimamente…
MIRA LO QUE SOFÍA ME HIZO AAHHHH
LOOKIE LOOKIE AT THIS PRETTY ART THAT SOFÍA DID FOR ME
/end capslock and continues flailing around
Go check out her comic and her deviantART (and her Tumblr ofc, but that’s shared with other people)— her stye is cartoony and expressive <3 I love seeing how she draws people!
About how long is Ara & Celi planned to be?
This is where you can tell I suck at planning: I’ve only written about twenty-five chapters, while the rest of my ideas for future chapters are right now just plot concepts. Specific points I want to hit, with certain characters I want to perhaps use or not.
I suppose when I hit the chapter 15 mark in the comic, I’ll start writing more chapters.
However, I do know how it ends and how I want it to end. It’s one of the few consistencies I’ve maintained in developing the story. Right down to the layout and style I’d wish to use when the time comes to draw it. I also know what do I need to write in order to get there. So you might say that if there comes a point when I feel I’ve reached the limits of how much I can tell about the A&C world, I’ll start making strides towards it.
So tl;dr answer is: it has 25 chapters written out with no clue on how long it’ll run/when it ends. Yet there’s an ending for it.
What's been your favorite part about working on Ara & Celi? Any fond memories of interactions with readers that you'd like to share? :,D
Definitely the world-building behind it! In the beginning, many, many years ago, Ara & Celi was pretty bare and typical of a magical girl story — complete with repetitive tropes that I stole from other series 8I I didn’t put much stock into the story itself, though I did for some characters. Ara, Celi and Anaka (another character still to be seen) are some who’ve gotten developed and re-developed since the start. Heck, Miyara herself was slightly solidified only a few years back after constant revisions!
But as I went along reading more about angelology and demonology (the study of angels and demons/devils), and learning more about different religions and the depiction of spiritual beings in each one, or lack of, I’ve found myself wanting to just basically write stories about these characters and how they see the world + showing the different representations of divine beings. That sounds fancy and not at all what’s currently happening in the comic now, but that’s my main goal. :D Figuring out details that work with characters’ personalities definitely is a fave part too, and part of world-building.
As for fond memories of interactions, ehhh >.> I have none. I get so few comments combined, that basically every single one is fondly remembered <3 I don’t even know an exact number of readers, since the site traffic software I have never seems to change its numbers, even on high hits days. I do always have a soft spot for my friend Meshia’s comments. She’s a big religion/spiritual-information/depictions person, so seeing hers make me laugh xD Especially about Celi, like going into certain situations and just blowing stuff up 8D
Thank you for this! <3 I love answering questions about A&C *q*
Another WIP! One goal I have this year (like every other year) is to try and churn out enough pages for A&C so that we can finally go into Chapter 3 and beyond 8I;; I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it as fast as possible, because some of the next pages are detail-intensive! That’s on me though xD
The woman on the left, leaning on the wall, I love how she turned out. But I think she might be disproportionate to the rest on her level. That hat was the first hat I drew that turned out well ;__; (Usually they turn out blegh.)
WIP of current page of Ara & Celi!
I started work on this one before MetaCon, so it’s been some months 8D;; I’ve been tinkering out some of the weird inking parts. This panel didn’t need much, though. (might fix that chin later xD) But I forgot this one had lots of crowds…so I had to go back, check to see if it all looked okay and continue inking the rest of the people. X_X;;
CCF 2013 by JadineR
Right! Comic Creators for Freedom is holding its donation drive once again!
Webcomic creators come together to raise money by contributing a picture featuring one of their characters. The theme this year is Awkward School Photo! For one dollar, you can have the wallpaper collage featuring all these characters!
It was slightly hard to decide who to use this year; on one hand, male characters were allowed, so that I meant I could offer up a pic with Kuruno for the collage. But, uh, within the current context/setting of Ara & Celi, school photos ain’t possible in Japan. (As far as I know.) The only character for whom this made much more sense would be Tanare, who was raised mainly in the States. However, I already used her once XD (I have a thing about not trying to repeat too much.)
Then there’s the fact that there was a male option…So really I just decided to wing it and use the sole remaining main character of the cast. Yes, there’s a reason behind the way he’s drawn. Yes, it will be told at one point in the comic…
[/horrifically slow with updates + story-telling]
Celi digi-sketch by JadineR
Has it happened to anyone that if you don’t draw your original characters for a while, you tend to forget how some of their details look like?
That happens to me once in while, but with Celi, I always end up changing something anytime I draw her when time has passed. XD Usually around the eyes or with her facial structure. So yeah, this sketch happened. I just wanted to draw her again while I’m coloring covers <3
At one point in December Legendary Beings Ara & Celi will return to its laughably slow schedule. (ﾉ´ヮ´)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧ (I’d say sooner but anytime I determine a date for something, it never works out…oh, d’oh! Jinxed it. 8D)

Ara and Celi Babies — New Year 2013 by =JadineR
I was supposed to have finished and put this up on New Year’s but my eyes needed a total break after pulling an extreme all-nighter on editing the minicomic x_x (3 pgs left…) So now it goes up.
These are characters from my webcomic, Legendary Beings Ara & Celi. I had this idea about 2 months ago: Ara (center), Celi (right) and Miyara (left) as babies >3> And it was going to be the first thing I drew this year. Therein lies the joke. A very bad joke, possibly. 8D Well, I pencilled it on the first, at least XD
Hope so far the year has been treating you all well. All *counts* 3 days of it.
WAIT it’s only been 3 days?! Why does it feel like more?! *sense of time severely whacked*
Anyway, hope you enjoy the cuteness ^^
*whistles while shamelessly reblogs own art again so everyone remembers what she still tries to do*
Legendary Beings Ara and Celi Issue 1 cover by =JadineR
Official cover of the first issue of Legendary Beings Ara & Celi! I am VERY proud of how this turned out — exactly as I planned and my amateur painting skills didn’t suck this time! XD
This cover contains the main three characters as they tend to be in my head, heh: Miyara with the flowy hair, Ara (angel) & Celi (devil) shooting out of a pseudo take on Miyara’s symbol. I just wanted to do something dynamic and for lack of a better word, “pop arty”. Or a design aesthetic reflective of pop? Hehehe.
Everything including the background was done separately, because I couldn’t find my masking fluid oops. The background is acrylic, while Miyara was done with Copics and acrylics. Ara & Celi were inked with a brush pen and “colored” in Photoshop with masked layers. The splatter on Miyara were scanned and pasted separately, a neat trick I saw on Yukito Kishiro’s how to blog. (Scroll down to ‘until BAA can be done section’ — very informative!) If that trick was obvious though, welp, I’m not that smart yet XD
The blank spaces at top are for the logos and such.
Hopefully at one point next month I will post a journal with details on how to get your copy :D If all goes well.
