black jack caps round 3: manga edition
((everythings out of order again hoo boy))
These are hilarious! You’ve got the best filenames. x3;;
( Pffft, poor Tezuka-sensei and his deadlines. )
Well, my night has started off well :D
(Black Jack and a hospital doctor are standing at the bedside of a bandaged man. He has a cross-shaped scar on the side of his face and harsh features, although he’s smiling a bit ruefully right now.)
Yakuza: How can I thank ya, Doc?
Black Jack: Well, don’t thank me. We’ll do the second transplant tomorrow.
Yakuza: My son’s had it hard with a dad like me. I want to raise him to lead a proper life. He hates going to the public baths with me.
(In a memory of one such trip to the baths, the boy is sighing as he sits by the faucet, looking fed up. His yakuza father glares over his shoulder at two terrified little boys running away while trembling.
The father’s body has many scars and a large, gaudy tattoo on his back.)
Yakuza: Everyone shivers when they see the tattoos on my back. When I think of the shame I’ve put him through… ‘Course, now those tattoos are as good as gone.
(The next page is from later on, the son is bathing alone at the bath house, washing himself when two boys crawl over, laughing at him.)
Boys: Hey! Nice patches, Frankenstein!
(The son is annoyed by their insults, turns to face them angrily.)
Son: Shut up, you idiots! This is my daddy’s skin!
(Black Jack is shown looking around the side of a building, looking thoughtful, before he walks off as the sun beats down.)
Black Jack: Stay strong, kid.

Alternatively, the tilte of this would-have been (fan) comic is “sameness”. 8) Also, this is left-to-right!
Right, well, some of you watchers might remember that right around this time last year I got obsessed with the series Black Jack. 8D It got to the point that I actively participated and talked with people of the fandom and I’m the kind of person who doesn’t really “join” fandoms…I just, well, declare myself a fan and that’s that :B
Awww, I remember this! <3
Well, I think what’s finished of it is lovely! There are some issues (poor wobbly-looking Pinoko balancing on the stool!), but the composition’s still very nice and the art style’s lovely! And I like the angles and perspectives… you don’t see too many people trying to do that. x3 Top right corner panel especially~
The top right corner’s my fave panel <3 Thank you so much for the comments! I really wanted to push myself, heh heh, even with the mistakes I made. :3

ブラック・ジャック 〜青き未来〜 (少年チャンピオン・コミックス エクストラ)
Black Jack ~ Aoki Mirai ~ (Shonen Champion Comics Extra)
Release Date:2012/10/20
Osamu Tezuka/Hitoshi Iwaaki/Masaaki NakayamaI said let’s all meet up in the year 20xx. Won’t it be strange when we’re all nearly 60 years old? *random pop culture reference*
That’s the plain truth about Black Jack ~ Aoki Mirai ~, originally published from September 8, 2011 to September 8, 2012 and overall consisting of ten chapters. Black Jack is nearly 60 years old (my dear friend F-Man and I also like to call it “Old Black Jack” as in referring to “Young Black Jack”) in this spin-off manga and I can tell, that it was really painful for me to even take a proper look at it (not forgetting to mention taking scans of it).
I didn’t had any high expectations for it and when it finally arrived in my mailbox along with Young Black Jack Vol. 2, I was quite shocked of his unfavorable appearance in it. He’s looks okay in a few panels but in most of them… he just looks grumpy, insane and did I already mentioned old? It just breaks my poor Black Jack fangirl heart to see him like this. (;へ:)
Anyways, I hope that some of you might enjoy the scans of Black Jack ~ Aoki Mirai ~ (since it took me forever to get them into a presentable state).
I dunno, I think he aged pretty well for being nearly 60. :V I much prefer the style of this to Young Black Jack, though. This artist is fantastic.
I think it looks really good. I want to read this. He’s always kinda grumpy anyway and he’s aged a good bit but hey that’s how it is at 60. He’s looking pretty good. He’s lived a long stressed out life doing crazy surgeries and it shows perfectly on his face. I really like it.
Agreed! The lines around the brows and eyes are perfect.
That man has seen a LOT by the time he’s just 27, 30… imagine how much he’d have seen and been through by sixty? And all that stress?
Considering the tumultous life he’s lived, the way he looks makes perfect sense and I still think he’s aged gracefully.
He does look even MORE somber than before, though, and that, I certainly find kind of sad.
( This art does look lovely. )
ANd yes, Pinoko does look as devoted as ever, but that seems to be a dream Black Jack’s having… and look, he looks so much younger in the image where she’s embracing him! Is it a flashback? Is Pinoko no longer with him? I know she wouldn’t ever leave Doc’s side willingly, so I’m curious as to what happens in this story…
Thanks so much for the scans, Sevi. <333
Pinoko plays an important part in this manga, actually. <3 That’s all I’m “spoiling.”
I don’t know, I kinda liked this take on Black Jack (sorry, Sevi!). It’s one of those rare sequels worth reading, even if it’s just for the great art. :3 The story’s decent, though a bit dense. (I’m basing myself off the Japanese reviews and scans from blogs.)
Black Jack Trying To Bribe God
( This is actually what happened. It’s actually kind of pitifully sad in context. )
